Viking Camp at Slane Castle

Boyne Valley Viking Experience will be the largest historical re-enactment festival in Ireland in 2024. More than 200 armoured, full contact warriors will take to the battlefield to create a spectacle never seen before in Ireland.

Viking reenactors from all over Ireland and Europe will camp at Slane Castle and will tell the Viking story of the Boyne Valley to visitors. Full size replica longships will sail on the River Boyne and sailors from the Vikings TV Series will tell you about their adventures.

Viking families and warriors will be camped in an authentic tented village below the Castle.

The camp will be open from 10.30am to 5pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday to show how Viking folk lived in the area more than a thousand years ago. Demonstrations throughout each day will be by crafts people using medieval tools and ancient skills and will include, woodworking, pottery, weaving, jewellery making, birds of prey by Raven Haven Aviary and Rune Readings by a shaman – and much more. 

Visitors to the camp can try archery and axe throwing and hear Skalds tell Viking sagas, participate in childrens treasure hunts, and see fierce warriors do battle. There is something for all the family.      Ticket price includes car parking.

Timed activities Saturday & Sunday: subject to change (check noticeboard on site)

13.00pm: Childrens Treasure Hunt led by Stefan Barry

14.00pm: Viking Long Ships land at the river bank and the warriors march to the camp

16.00pm: Childrens Treasure Hunt led by Stefan Barry

4.30pm: Viking camp closes at 4.30pm on Sunday
